Yes. Under Australian Standards (AS 3740) and the National Construction Code, wet areas in bathrooms must be waterproofed by a licensed waterproofer. This includes the shower floor and walls, around the bath and any other wet zones. We manage the strata approval process, coordinate with building management for access, deliveries and waste removal, and comply with building noise and operating hour restrictions. All our apartment bathroom renovations include certified waterproofing.
Most standard bathroom renovations don’t require council approval — replacing tiles, fixtures, vanities and tiling is considered exempt development. However, if the renovation involves structural changes (removing walls, changing the bathroom’s footprint) or major plumbing relocations, you may need approval. We’ll advise you on requirements for your specific project.
Consider durability, maintenance, size and style. Large-format tiles (600x600mm or larger) make small bathrooms feel more spacious and have fewer grout lines to maintain. It depends on the size of your bathroom and plumbing access. A freestanding bath typically needs a floor area of at least 1700mm x 800mm plus clearance on all sides. Plumbing for the waste and tapware also needs to be accessible from below the floor. We’ll assess feasibility during your consultation.
Wall-hung (floating) vanities are the best option for small bathrooms. They free up visible floor space, making the room feel larger, and allow easy cleaning underneath. A wall-hung vanity with a thin stone or solid-surface top keeps the profile slim while maximising storage inside.
